For Authors
Submit ManuscriptInspired by Boyer’s vision of applying disciplinary knowledge to practical problem-solving, Journal of Scholarly Engagement highlights scholarship that intentionally integrates theory, research, or reflective analysis with community-engaged practice conducted in partnership with educational, professional, or community-based stakeholders. The journal prioritizes manuscripts that address clearly articulated real-world challenges through rigorous, reflective, or evidence-informed approaches.
Submissions must demonstrate a clear scholarly contribution by informing practice, evaluating engaged initiatives, or generating transferable insights relevant to educational, professional, or community–institutional contexts. All manuscripts should include critical analysis, integration of relevant literature, or systematic inquiry appropriate to the manuscript type.

Original Work
Submission to JSE indicates that the manuscript (or a similar version of it) has not been previously published, accepted for publication, and/or is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Review Process
All submissions are evaluated by a double-anonymous, peer-review process. Prior to dissemination to the reviewers, the Editor will conduct a preliminary appraisal for content, substance, and appropriateness to the journal. If the manuscript is clearly inappropriate, the author will be informed and the manuscript returned. Appropriate manuscripts will be sent to two reviewers for an anonymous evaluation. Although there is an attempt to match manuscripts and reviewers according to content, interests, and topical relevance, the broad focus of the journal dictates that papers be written for applicability to a wide audience.
Review Outcomes
Utilizing feedback from the peer review process, the Editor will make a final publication decision. The review process will take approximately 6 weeks. Decisions categories include:
- Reject - Rejected manuscripts will not be published and authors will not have the opportunity to resubmit a revised version of the manuscript to JSE.
- Revise and Resubmit – Manuscripts receiving a revise-and-resubmit decision have value, but need significant revisions prior to receiving additional consideration for publication.
- Accept Pending Revisions - Manuscripts receiving an accept-pending-revisions decision will be published in JSE under the condition that minor modifications are made. Revisions will be reviewed by an editor to ensure necessary updates are made prior to publication.
- Accept - Accepted manuscripts will be published in the current form with no further modifications required.
Correspondence
All correspondence concerning manuscripts should be directed to the Editor of JSE. The Editor will direct all correspondence to the lead author; the lead author is responsible for sharing communications with other authors. Beyond communication concerning the review, manuscripts accepted for publication may require additional correspondence to complete copyediting and typesetting.
